Porcelain Popcorn and Cranberries
Adapting the principles of lost wax casting techniques used for bronze to a more humble medium, popcorn, I created each piece of translucent porcelain popcorn by dipping popped popcorn kernels, carefully selected for their interesting forms, into porcelain slip that I then hand finished when dry. The popcorn itself burns out, leaving its unique abstract shape, during the firing process in the kiln. The porcelain cranberries are individually formed by hand and painted with a glossy red glaze. The String-It-Yourself Porcelain Popcorn and Cranberry kits were featured at the American Craft Council show in San Francisco in 2015.
